Postpartum Closing Ceremony

The postpartum healing ceremony was created to nurture the mother after her passage through giving birth, and her journey into motherhood. It is a way of honoring a mother's intense and expansive work and helps to physically and emotionally close her body after being open during pregnancy. Everything about being pregnant, from the expanding belly, the widening of the pelvis, cervix, and uterus, to a rapidly growing newborn is about transition and opening up. 

This ceremony is about calling her spirit back to herself as she has been a portal for carrying new life – she has walked the threshold between worlds. It is created to close her physically, mentally and spiritually. A transformation has begun as the mother embraces new aspects of herself through this rite of passage into new stages of motherhood.

This ceremony can also be for women who are still recovering from traumatic or challenging births no matter how long ago they occurred. This process is especially important for women who experienced an intense opening in their womb area such as during cesareans, miscarriages and sexual assault.
